CMN Recorder

Setup

Run CMN Recorder by going to "Start" > "Programs" > "CMN Recorder" > "CMN Recorder". Now, you must configure it for recording a broadcast. In the box labeled "Select one..." select either the studio to from or the CMRI TV stream. Set the duration (adding a few minutes more than the duration of the broadcast is generally a good idea). Browse for a folder to hold each of the recordings (recordings are labeled as "Broadcast name: - Month Day, Year.mp3/wma/wmv.) Enter the name of the broadcast in the "Broadcast name:" box (i.e. The Apocalypse Chronicles, Sound Body, Defeating Diaprax, etc.). If you want the program to exit automatically after the recording is finished, check the "Close when finished" check-box. You don't need to press the "Start" button yet, this is optional. If you want to automatically record each (daily) broadcast, you need to go to your "Scheduled Tasks" ("Start" > "Settings" > "Control Panel" > "Scheduled Tasks") and add a task. Double click the "Add Scheduled Task" icon. Click "Next >" followed by "Browse..." where you will navigate to where you installed your program (generally C:\Programs\CMN Recorder\CMN Recorder.exe). Either double click on the CMN Recorder.exe file, or click "Open". Enter the name for the task, CMN Recorder should be the default, but it is advisable to add the broadcast name to this (i.e. CMN Recorder - The Apocalypse Chronicles - Early Morning); I will explain why in a bit. Set how often it is to be run (Daily). Click "Next >" and set the start time (you will need to compensate for the time difference between you and the broadcast timezone.). Select how often to perform this task (Weekdays) and click "Next >". You will need to enter the password you use to login to Windows in the boxes. Click "Next >" and check the box "Open advanced properties... "; click "Finish". After the last quotation mark in the "Run:" box, and " Start" without the quotes. You can also go over to the "Schedule" tab and select which weekdays to record on. Hit "Apply" and re-enter your password.

FAQ

Q: Can I record more than one broadcast?

A: Yes, copy the CMN Recorder folder from the install directory to another directory (or the same directory) and add the broadcast name (i.e. CMN Recorder - Sound Body); re-configure it for recording the new broadcast, and create another Scheduled Task (this time use the CMN Recorder.exe from the new folder) with the appropriate settings for recording this new broadcast.

Q: A black box labeled MPlayer... appears when I press start or when the program autostarts, why?

A: That box is MPlayer, which is the recording engine for CMN Recorder. You can minimize it, but currently there is no way to completely "hide" it from the user.

Q: Why do I have to go through so much work just to create one new recording schedule?

A: Because at present there is no simple way to implement a "Job Queue" in CMN Recorder, one maybe added at a later date.

Q: Why do I have to make a new copy of the entire CMN Recorder folder for each broadcast I want to record?

A: Since each broadcast must have its own settings, the easiest way to store them is in text files, the easiest way to implement this is by creating a new folder for each instance. Again, this will hopefully be fixed someday with a "Job Queue".

Q: Even though I checked the box "Close when finished", it still displays a message saying the recording was successful?

A: Yes, this is to confirm that the recording was or wasn't successful. The program will close as soon as you acknowledge the message.

Q: Why did you say to set the Recording Duration to longer than the broadcast?

A: Because, at least until you figure out exactly how far off your clock is from that of the actual broadcast time, it is wise to start the recording a few minutes early and let it run a few minutes over.

Known Bugs

If, for some reason, the folder "Settings" is not present in the CMN Recorder folder, the program won't load. This will be fixed very soon.

If you don't set all of the settings before starting a recording, there will be errors, namely:

It won't start without a studio to record from (Fixed with a message prompting you to select a studio)

If no destination is specified, the files will be placed... I'm not really sure where.

If no Broadcast name is specified, the files will be named "- Month Day, Year.mp3/wma/wmv"

The Duration boxes (hours & minutes) are not updated with the correct information. If you set them to 2 hours & 2 minutes, when it next loads it will say 1 hour & 5 minutes, but this is not true, the value 2 hours & 2 minutes IS remembered.
